Exactly a year ago, I was in Paris for the weekend with my family, watching the Tour de France, when I received a phone call.
Like many small business owners, I answered it. The person on the other end was feeling overwhelmed, so we arranged to speak properly when I returned home. I remember thinking how much courage it must have taken to pick up the phone.
She had worked with professional organisers before, but a previous experience had left her feeling let down. Trust had been broken, and the thought of starting again felt daunting.
During our first conversation, I reassured her there would be no judgement, no pressure and no expectation to do everything at once. We would simply work together, side by side, at her pace.
One of the biggest misconceptions, about decluttering and organising, is that everything has to change in a day.
In reality, lasting change rarely works like that.
Sometimes progress looks like making one decision you couldn’t make last month. Sometimes it’s clearing one small area, finding things more easily or simply feeling a little calmer in your own home.
Those changes might seem small, but over time they build confidence. They make everyday life easier and, most importantly, they prove that change really is possible.
Many people wait far longer than they need to before asking for support.
They worry they’ll be judged.
They think they should be able to manage on their own.
They feel embarrassed by the state of their home.
The truth is, asking for help is often the bravest step of all.
You don’t need to reach a crisis point before you deserve support. Sometimes having someone by your side is exactly what helps you move forward.
Professional organising isn’t just about tidy cupboards or clever storage solutions.
It’s about building trust.
My client lives with a chronic long-term illness and describes herself as a hoarder. Together, we focused on making her home work for her. My role wasn’t to rush decisions, but to create a calm, supportive environment where progress felt achievable.
We worked side by side, taking one step at a time. No judgement. No pressure.
Just steady progress.
"I've worked with a few professional organisers over the years, but Lisa is the only one I've truly felt comfortable with. Although I would class myself as a hoarder and still struggle to throw things away, I've been making real progress with Lisa. She has been coming to me for over a year now, and the difference is clear. I was very anxious at the start because of a bad experience in the past, but the moment I spoke to Lisa on the phone I knew she was the right fit. She is gentle, patient and never pushes me. Because of that, I trust her completely. I genuinely look forward to her visits. She gets so much done, and my head just feels clearer knowing everything is organised and in its place. I trust Lisa completely and would recommend her without hesitation to anyone who needs calm, kind and effective support with decluttering and organising."

I’m really proud of the progress she’s has made over the past year.
I know it hasn’t always been easy, but she has continued to take those small steps forward.
Of course, I love seeing beautifully organised spaces.
But what matters most isn’t how a home looks – it’s how it feels to live in.
If someone feels calmer, more in control and a little lighter than they did before, that’s a success.
Perhaps you’ve been putting it off.
Maybe you’re worried you’ll be judged.
Or perhaps you’ve convinced yourself you should be able to do it alone.
If you’re living with a chronic long-term illness, caring for someone else, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, it’s understandable that keeping on top of your home can feel difficult.
Please know this: you don’t have to do it alone.
Looking back, I’m so glad my client found the courage to make that first phone call. She still says some decisions are difficult, but she’s also making real progress.
One phone call started a year of change. And it all began with simply asking for help.
